Lyrics

Now we were on the rise as a brand new Irish band
And we came across a festival that seemed to us quite grand
So Barry wrote the council that ran the whole darn thing
He said, your festival is down the street, and here’s what we can bring
We’ve got a different sound, and we put on quite a show
We’ve got local fans, originals, and even songs YOU know
But the council wouldn’t buy it, they seemed stuck in their ways
Get credentials, get experience and we’ll consider it one day
And we said

Well we’ve got some new material we’d like you all to hear
For your consideration, so, can we play this year
You can pay one thousand dollars and give us some free beer
Sorry Gaelic Mishap but you can’t play here

Now Scotty tried to butter up the council one by one
And he offered to play for charity, no pay, we’ll play for fun
We thought we’d get in that year, finally play in our home state
They said, You haven’t gigged with someone big, besides, you asked too late
Now we’d gathered quite a following as we played everywhere else
And we gave up on that festival, and left it on the shelf
But our fans, they went to bat for us, we thought we’d finally won
But the council changed the date that year, and the festival was done
And we said

Well we’ve got some new material we’d like you all to hear
For your consideration, so, can we play this year
You can pay five hundred dollars and give us some free beer
Sorry Gaelic Mishap but you can’t play here

So we traveled the world over, cut a record, toured around
Every city, every state, every country, every town
We played with Carbon Leaf, Dropkick, Flogging, Gaelic Storm
Til there was one place left on earth that we had not performed
We sent Mairead to the council with a brand new EPK, she said
We’re gonna rock your socks off, if you’d only let us play. I’ll write a song, right here, right now, that no one’s heard before
They said: Sorry, but the bands are booked you’ll have to play next door
So we said

Well we’ve got some new material we’d like you all to hear
For your consideration, so, can we play this year
You can pay us nothing, just give us some free beer
Sorry Gaelic Mishap but you can’t play here

Now Andrew had a brilliant scheme to sneak into the place
How can they stop us playing, once we’re set up on the stage
We got all the way to soundcheck, and the crowd let out a cheer
But the festival police came and ruined that idear
We’re sorry officer, we don’t mean you any harm
We’re just here to play our music, not to cause any alarm
He said: As long as you behave, sing a song, have a stout
Unless you’re Gaelic Mishap, then the council says: GET OUT
So we said

Well we’ve got some new material we’d like you all to hear
For your consideration, so, can we play this year
We’ll pay YOU a thousand dollars, and buy everyone a beer
Sorry Gaelic Mishap but you can’t play here
